Sometimes our job is not to come up with an entirely original creation, but to enhance something that already exists.

In this case, Guardian Plumbing & Heating had already created an alter ego, but they wanted us to create the superhero: “Drain Dr.”

To start with, we stayed very close to the original artwork (to honour the original artist, who was also an employee of Guardian).

Our designer used his experience as a comic artist to re-work the inks, and then adapted the character’s pose and costume to create “Drain Dr.” Many of the differences are subtle, but they add up.

The final linework was vectorized, and our artist added colours and shading before giving Drain Dr. a prominent place on Guardian’s van.

We also completed the plumber and super-hero alter egos at a later date.
